James clinches a draw for Branston Boys against Lichfield

James Bailey provided Branston Boys with a vital point to draw with Lichfield Golf & Country Club at a competition on Sunday 22nd May. After giving away 12 shots, James won 4 and 3 at matchplay to gain that valuable point for his team.

James enjoys skills clinic at Golf LIVE

James enjoyed a great session at Golf LIVE’s skills clinic where he was pulled out of the audience and treated to some fun golf play with French pro Thomas Levet and Scotland’s Carly Booth – a new PGA from Scotland. Pictured here is James and Thomas Levet.

James and Monty go head to head

At the Golf LIVE Show at the London Club this weekend (21 & 22 May), James enjoyed a chipping competition with the legendary Colin Montgomerie. “Colin was good fun” commented James, “and yes, he was just slightly better than me!” he admitted.

Colin was looking forward to the event – he said in his journal: “On Friday and the weekend I am at Golf LIVE at The London Club. Golf LIVE provides a unique and memorable experience for golfers of all ages and abilities. It’s very important that we make ourselves, as pros, available to the general public more than we do. Generally, we turn up at golf courses, play our round and go home. The public has watched us play from a distance but hasn’t really learnt much about who we are, what our personalities are like and how we go about certain shots, so people get a real benefit from it. It’s just a full day out for the family.”

James and his dad Phil certainly agree with those sentiments.

James qualifies for world tournament in San Diego

Aged just 9 years, James Bailey won the Callaway Junior Golf Tour UK Qualifier at Wildwood Golf and Country Club in Surrey at the weekend. This means that James, and caddy – dad Phil – are off to the world tournament in San Diego this July. James rose to the challenge of the scratch 36 hole competition that was played out over Saturday and Sunday, 16 and 17 April. At the end of Day 1 he was tied in first place at the top of the leaderboard only to go on and win outright on Day 2, finishing on an equivalent of 18 under par – a remarkable achievement.

It dawned on James at the presentation that a speech would be required so he bravely got up and thanked everyone for their support, including his Dad, tour organisers, the golf club and playing partners.

A pupil at Thomas Russell school in Barton under Needwood, James is delighted with his win and is looking forward to traveling abroad to play with the best junior golfers in the world. Strangely, James’ sisters, Paige and Abigail, have suddenly developed an interest in golf with the prospect of being ‘California Girls’ in the summer! Mum Angela is also very proud.
